The Brief

The client — a newly opened luxury hotel in Macau — sought a signature ceiling light for their main lobby. The space featured high ceilings, marble flooring, and warm neutral tones. The design needed to be grand, welcoming, and distinctly artistic — a focal point that would impress guests upon arrival and create a lasting memory.

The designer‘s vision was unconventional: a large fabric shade, soft and diffused, with hand-painted artwork concealed inside — visible only to those who looked up.

Standard chandelier light fixture options could not achieve this combination of scale, material, and hidden artistry. The project demanded a fully custom, handcrafted solution.

Our Solution

Solus Lumi collaborated with the lighting designer and the hotel‘s interior architecture team to create a custom fabric drum pendant — two meters in diameter, suspended at the center of the lobby, with hand-painted artwork concealed within.
