Project: The Canopy | Boutique Hotel Lobby Installation

The Brief

The client — a newly opened boutique hotel — wanted a signature ceiling light for their double-height lobby. The architecture featured warm wood tones and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a bamboo garden. The design needed to feel organic, serene, and distinctly not industrial.

The designer’s vision: a cluster of illuminated forms that appear to float like leaves caught in a gentle breeze — natural, unstructured, and timeless.

Standard chandelier light fixture options from existing catalogues were either too rigid in form or too limited in scale. The project required a fully custom solution.

Our Solution

Solus Lumi collaborated directly with the lighting designer and the hotel’s interior architecture team to create a bespoke biophilic pendant installation — a series of seven handcrafted organic forms suspended at varying heights.

Every piece was handcrafted in our atelier. From the initial sketch to the final installation, the process took 14 weeks — including prototyping, client approval, and international shipping.

The Result

The installation now serves as the focal point of the hotel lobby. Guests often pause beneath it, looking up. The soft, warm light filters through the space, creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere that echoes the bamboo garden beyond.

The hotel’s management has reported that the hotel light fixture has become a frequently photographed feature — appearing in guest social media posts and local design publications.
